Blossburg Memorial Library Friends

The Friends of the Blossburg Memorial Library promote the use and appreciation of this community asset through advocacy, volunteer services, and fund raising.  Join over 60 members in our mission of supporting library activities.  Meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month except December, July & August at 6:30 PM in the community room of the library.

The Friends are pleased to announce an ongoing book sale at the library. Hardcover books are priced at $1.00. Paperback books are 3 for $1.00.   Stop in and support the Friends.

Highlights of 2007

For the first meeting of 2007 Marge Wetherbee of Wellsboro conducted an antiques appraisal for a $5 donation.

In April the Friends joined with the Board of Directors to sponsor a very successful basket bingo fund raiser netting over $2700 for the library. The Friends donated $1000 toward the purchase of new chairs for the adult reading section.

Several Friends members assisted with the children's story hour and provided refreshments.

Garden Party Photos

In July the Friends assisted the Library Board of Directors at the 4th annual Garden Party held at The Hamilton Club in Morris Run where  they conducted a silent auction raising over $700. In October the Friends held their 3rd annual book sale earning over $1200. The Friends made several contributions toward book purchases. During the year the Friends maintained the lending library at the Riverside Park Senior Center. The November meeting was a presentation of Polish Christmas Customs by Tony Lupkowski.

The Friends purchased a changeable letter sign to be used in front of the Library.

Winter weather caused the cancellation of the February Wine & Cheese membership drive scheduled for February. This event is being rescheduled for June 10th.

Wellsboro author of the children's book "Hobo Finds a Home" Kevin Coolidge brought Hobo the cat to the Library on March 8th. The friends purchased 50 copies of his book that were distributed to first grade students at North Penn Elementary School.

Basket Bingo tickets are now on sale at the Library for $20 each. There are baskets available that need sponsors. Please ask at the circulation desk if you would like to purchase a basket. We would like to have as many filled baskets as possible.
